Hourglass

Located in the heart of Perth, Hourglass is more than just a café — it’s a space built on connection, community, and conversation. Founded by David Bridle, a lifelong food lover with a passion for people, Hourglass invites locals to pause, breathe, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life: good food, great tea, and even better company. When asked to describe the business in one word; David chose community – “it’s about the people”, he explained.

David’s journey to opening Hourglass is rooted in his strong love for creating a space for connection. After years of working with his father, a leadership speaker and business mentor, David learned the ins and outs of owning a business. Together they dreamed of opening a café and slowing down from the corporate/city life. After moving from the UK to Perth, they both brought that dream to life – creating a space where connection could blossom and community could thrive.

Although the first year was challenging, David’s dedication to his vision kept him going. It wasn’t about immediate success — it was about creating a space where people felt at home, where conversations could happen, and where every person walking through the door felt welcomed. He learned that true success isn’t measured by quick wins, but by building something lasting — even if it takes time.

From the moment you step inside, Hourglass feels like home – warm, inviting, and personal. David’s mission isn’t about attracting everyone — he’s focused on serving the ones who genuinely love the space. “We don’t chase customers,” he says. “We build a place they want to return to.”

Hourglass isn’t just a stop for coffee or tea. It’s a destination. With meeting rooms used regularly by 16 different groups, and a focus on genuine service, it’s clear this café is more than a business. It’s a community hub. David gets to know the people who come through the door. He learns their stories, their routines, and their favourite drinks. It’s this level of care and curiosity that defines both his business and his character. He wishes to bring back standards that have been lost, promoting polite human interaction.

Just from the couple of hours of talking to David, we saw how passionate he is, and we cannot wait to see what else he comes up with. He’s a great conversationalist and cares deeply about the people in his life. Don’t be a stranger, stop in and say hi, ask him for his expertise on tea or enjoy a cup of coffee and maybe you’ll even dream up something great together.
