This month we’re excited to feature the Perth Curling Club, a cornerstone of the community for an incredible 150 years! As a non-profit recreational facility and social hub, the Perth Curling Club offers more than just curling. It offers connection, community, and a warm place to gather during the colder months.
Located along the Tay River, the Perth Curling Club is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the curling season. With event space available for rent, accommodating up to 130 people upstairs and 70 downstairs, the Perth Curling Club is a licensed venue ideal for parties, and other social gatherings.
It’s not just about the ice. The Perth Curling Club’s offerings include:
- “Learn to Curl” programs every Wednesday (10-week sessions)
- Yoga classes open to the public
- A fun and casual Friday Beer League
- Stick Curling for those with mobility challenges
- Live concerts at the riverside during warmer seasons
The Perth Curling Club isn’t just the only curling club in town, it’s also a multigenerational gathering space, with members from ages six to 91. It’s a place where strangers become teammates, and teammates become friends. As members say, “A lot of people who come in never leave,” which is a testament to the club’s strong sense of belonging and community spirit. At the Perth Curling Club their mission is to “build socially and physically active lifestyles for all. One rock at a time”. Who doesn’t love to make friends while being active at the same time?
The Vice President, Marty, described the club as a lifeline of connection. After relocating to Perth from a larger city, curling helped him meet people and build lasting relationships. He enjoys the social side, the interactions with members, and the fact that curling can be competitive or just plain fun! The Perth Curling Club can be whatever you want it to be, whether you’re there to compete, connect, or simply unwind, there is a place for everyone.
With an aging facility (originally built in 1953), the Perth Curling Club faced infrastructure issues over the past year. Last summer, the team revitalized the interior with much-needed updates, breathing new life into the historic space and ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for years to come.
After meeting with the Perth Curling Club, it is easy to see their passion for the sport and the facility they have built. We are looking forward to seeing many more accomplishments at the club over the next 150 years!
